When I first tried avocado I hated the taste.  The second time it was served to me at a friend’s house and I politely ate it but still did not like it.  However, the third time I ate it without realising it as it was an ingredient in a sandwich which was delicious.

The moral is that just because you don’t like something served one way doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy it in another dish.

Avocados are high in fat but don’t let that deter you as the majority of it is unsaturated, associated with benefits to heart health.  You need to watch how much you consume though as the calories soon mount up.

For a quick and healthy breakfast try mashing 1/2 an avocado and spreading it on 2 slices of wholegrain toast; top with sliced tomato and black pepper and you have the first of your 5 a day.  If you add some smoked salmon you’ve got an omega 3 boost too.
